A meal can never be complete without the finishing bit, the dessert of course. One of the most favored desserts is ice cream. But then ice cream alone at times gets quite mundane thus ever since the beginning of the 19th century chefs and housewives all over started experimenting with ice creams to innovate new and mouth watering desserts for their customers and family respectively. Of the many new dishes invented ice cream sandwich cakes were undoubtedly a delicacy. There is no specific recipe or measurement of ingredients that one should follow, this is one such dessert that can be prepared quite freely without strict restrictions… automatically the cooking process becomes quite a fun experience.

The general procedure for the preparation of this dessert is as follows:

The oven needs to be preheated at 350 degree F. then the baking sheet usually a 10 x15 inch one is chosen which is either buttered or prepared with non stick oil. The pan should be lined with parchment paper to ensure proper conditions for baking. Now take a large bowl and mix together the butter (100gram) sugar (100 gram) egg (1) and Vanilla essence. Little later add cocoa powder (25 gram), salt and finally the flour (65 gram) and stir the mixture well. Now once the batter is ready pour the same on the baking dish that was prepare earlier and bake it for not more than 10 minutes, care must be taken such that the cake is baked enough that the edges gradually begin to pull off from the pan. Next allow it cool. After the cake has cooled down it is placed on a cutting board where using a kitchen knife the cake is cut into two halves crosswise. One piece is then placed on the plastic wrap followed by spreading the ice cream of desired flavor with the help of a spatula, the other piece is placed on top and the cake is then tightly wrapped in the plastic wrap and placed in the freezer. It takes almost 2 hours for the mixture to become firm, many also prefer keeping it in the freezer overnight.

After the cake preparation is ready it is taken out of the freezer and usually 8 slices are cut out neatly and placed on a separate platter. Now comes the garnishing bit, one is at ease to take to garnish this dessert as they please. The quickest and the easiest way to garnish would entail the use of chocolate sauce that could be sprayed on top of the cake and chocolate chips could be sprinkled to add a chocolate tinge to the cake. But you could use your discretion and garnish your dessert your way to suit the taste of your family. It automatically follows that there is no one way of preparing this cake; the same dish can be prepared in different ways by different individuals. Usually you can experiment with the shapes of the cake and also garnish the same in a unique fashion to set it apart from any other of its kind!!
